This volume is nifty for a commencement creative person and useful to all every bit our skills develop.

I bought this book considering I was struggling with perspective, peculiarly for built forms. I bought this volume considering I was struggling with perspective, particularly for built forms. The book starts with exercises on how to breakdown a scene or object into its underlying shapes, and even the horizontal, vertical, and curved lines that brand upwardly those shapes. The book then moves on to capturing various textures (wood, brick, paper, etc.), then sketching landscapes, capturing the human form, then details of diverse 'difficult' trunk parts (hands, faces, etc.). The volume also discusses cartoon/painting outdoors (which I actually enjoying) and working with unlike media. Each phase builds on and draws from the piece of work done at previous stages so yous flow nicely to more difficult forms without feeling like it is too difficult.

Reyna encourages practising, suggesting different exercises to endeavour to reinforce the lessons learned. He as well shows how to use your pencil to bank check line directions, and how to use a viewfinder to frame out scenes. Before reading this book I thought those techniques were 'cheating'; I have since discovered that if it is your piece of work, you can utilise any techniques you similar and that fifty-fifty seasoned artists utilize these tricks, but it was from Reyna that both are good practice.

Overall, a wonderful book to take on the shelf (and to be used) past any creative person.

I found the "lessons" incredibly difficult to follow and while I understand that the author wanted you to describe everyday objects, presumably considering that's what you lot see, the actual objects were extremely ho-hum.

One thing that I did have away from the book was regarding drawing straight lines which I had never actually idea about before. That was an interesting lesson. Just I never could get past the third or fourth because I didn't sympathise what I was "supposed" to do.

"How To Draw What Yous See" is a basic-level cartoon book. I don't draw, simply a girl that I mentor spends a lot of fourth dimension drawing. I thought it'd exist fun to take drawing lessons together, just the instructor isn't very good at explaining WHY we are doing the diverse exercises that he gives to us. I noticed that he was basically following the lesson plan in this volume, then I bought a copy. The volume does a much better task of explaining the concepts than my fine art lessons teacher, and I accept the feeling th "How To Draw What You See" is a bones-level drawing volume. (Hopefully y'all accept admission to a meliorate instructor.)

Part I of this book covers 19 lessons which are progressive projects that build skill and confidence. He covered drawing basic shapes, perspective, shading, tones, drawing still life (indoors), cartoon outdoors (which covered the differences from still life more than how to draw copse, etc.), and drawing people and faces. I wasn't as impressed with the instruction in the drawing people department, but it certainly gave some basics to start from.

Part Two gave the basics on how to use watercolor, opaque watercolor, acrylic, and ink. He gives projects using black, greys, and white paints. This department had less teaching, but I think it's mainly intended to introduce the idea of "drawing" using other media.

Overall, I felt that this volume was very helpful and adult my skill at creating realistic-looking drawings. I'd recommend information technology to beginners who wish to larn this skill.

This book teaches how to draw starting with basic objects, which seem simple plenty, simply the devil is in the details. You lot should stop reading and practicing sometimes.

I didn't larn a bang-up bargain more from this book than I already knew. I wish I could play with all the different mediums the writer mentions, just even if I could afford them all, I don't think I could mess with ink wash in my current living situation. (I'thousand reluctant to even use charcoal because it's so like shooting fish in a barrel to ruin my clothes and carpet with it. Yeah, it comes off, but not ALL of it -- certainly not all of the compressed stuff.) I hope to attend an "Intro to Unlike Mediums" class at a nearby fine art center to make up for this.

I had to laugh during the composition sections, because the compositions I liked best were the ones he pointed out equally "bad." Well, we'll promise there'southward some flex in limerick, or I'g doomed as an creative person. ^^

Overall not a bad book; a little longwinded in the text, simply certainly better than the awful "How to Draw Cartoons" type of book you'll find at your local library.

My Christmas present this year :)

A good starter for drawing/ painting. I used to describe/ paint a lot as a child. Now wanting to pick it upwardly once again and to larn it properly. I intend to exclusively apply sketching apps on tablet computers at present, but that shouldn't brand a departure as far as learning from this volume goes.

This is an older book--1972--merely the author does a expert job of explaining the basics of drawing.
